CXF July 15th Coverage

July 15th- It was a pretty impressive production at the Upland Sports Arena for CXF's 2nd event. All of the fights were unexpectedly GOOD! For a start-up MMA organization in a small industrial town just outside of LA (where a deal had finally been struck, only a few months back, with the California State Boxing Commission to broaden the spectrum of combat sports), one would expect to see a bunch of over-hyped, second-rate fighters and obnoxious promoters.

However, it seemed to be a very professionally organized event. Fights were on schedule, the announcer was strong, but I'd have to say that the best decision CXF made was to get the legendary Cecil Peoples as the official fight Ref.  The fighters, though not quite yet UFC-caliber, were very impressive with their display of athleticism, raw talent, and sheer grit & dedication to the sport. These guys are tuff, and they train hard!  It was even announced during the event that they'd just signed a deal with the World Fighting Alliance, and will soon be sending over their top contenders to compete in the WFA organization.

Aside from a few showboating fighters and a poorly ventilated arena, it was a flawless evening. The CXF organizers seem to be very sincere in their approach, taking the time to address the crowded house on several occasions.  The event lasted about 4 hours and was over before the audience even knew it, despite the sweltering heat! It's safe to say that California Xtreme Fighting has established itself to be the official proving ground for California's elite mixed martial arts competitors, and future world champions!
